Dear Diary,
You might not know me, but I know you. My name is Marianne Dashwood and I used to live at Norland Park, a peaceful community. I have two sisters, Elinor and Margaret, and a half-brother, John, from my father’s previous marriage. Since my father died, John is now the owner of everything we possessed. He and his abominable wife Fanny Ferrars. My father asked him to look after us when he died, but his wife is a bitch and wants all our money. Now, my sisters, my mom and I are all by ourselves. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to us.
For a while, we stood at Norland Park, feeling miserable! But then, a visitor came and brought joy to our sad little lives: Mr. Edward Ferrars, Fanny’s older brother. At first, mom didn’t like because he wasn’t handsome and he was very shy, but Elinor spent a lot of time with him and I think that was the start of something new. After a certain time, mom understood him, specially because she thought he had fallen in love with her and that they would get married soon. I believed so too, but I didn’t quite like him. He was so… dead inside.
But, the second we suggested that they could be in love and get married loud enough to Fanny hear, it was a disaster. She said that neither of her brothers would ever marry someone as poor as us. That was the point where we saw that we just couldn’t stay there any longer. Luckily, our mother’s cousin, John Middleton, sent us a letter, telling that we could stay in his cottage in the county of Devon. It was very far from Fanny, so we were thrilled to go, although we knew we would miss Norland Park. And now, as we leave the only place I called home during all my life, I can’t contain the tears.
